Vacation spots for you and your dog.

Oven has the breath of summer turned to his old fun-loving dog into a lazy, tongue lolling couch potato who refuses to venture outdoors? Of course, you know the best antidote, at least for the water to travel from crazy canine: an emergency situation to a place where your pet can plunge into cool, crystalline waters after a stick or a ball. In fact, I would do the same, no stick. Unfortunately, it is increasingly difficult find shelter shore that allow dogs during summer or outside of limited early morning and evening hours. Many ban pooches entirely. But do not despair or wilt: Here are four refreshing destinations that welcome dogs on their shores.

First Landing State Park

Virginia Beach, Virginia

Lucky canines can frolic all year round along the sandy shore of this jewel of the popular East Coast located in the Chesapeake Bay. Here, where the first settlers landed in our country 400 years ago, dogs tied up and his people have the opportunity to swim together. The nearly 3,000-acre park has 19 miles dog-friendly hikes, including a walk under the trees of the swamp road dripping Spanish moss. Visitors can fish, crabs, and launching canoes and other small boats in the Narrows boat ramp.

"Almost everyone who works here has dogs, so it's pets," says employee Brenda Mueller, that nothing in the park with her water-loving Labrador retriever mix, Daisy.

To test your pet's vaccinations for rabies, be aware that the lifeguards patrol the beach, and watch for jellyfish.

Parking and swimming fees: $ 2 to $ 4. Reserve two rooms cabins with decks, grills, air conditioning, and more than $ 678 a week during the summer, residents of Virginia, residents $ 753, no.

Guadalupe River State Park

Spring Branch, Texas

Thirty miles north of San Antonio, the dogs find shelter cool the extreme heat of Texas along the Guadalupe River cypress benches in the shade. In this nearly 2,000 acre park located amidst the beautiful Hill Country resistant tied dogs accompanied by their fellow bipeds can swim in crystal clear waters of the river, walk five miles of trails, and the camp. You can enjoy fishing, canoeing, tubing, and nature programs outdoor Saturday nights, and dogs are welcome, too.

"We love dogs here as long as their owners obey the rules," says Bill Beach, Director of the branch office. That includes keeping your dog with the appropriate length leash, cleaning up after him, and prevention of Blue to lift one leg up on a beach towel with someone. Be sure to carry a certificate your pet's vaccination against rabies and watch out for rattlesnakes. Admission, $ 6 per person. RV Camping with hook-ups, $ 18; sites regular store, $ 14, $ 12 to walk in tent sites. Make reservations in advance at (512) 389-8900.

Kohler-Andrae State Park

Sheboygan, Wisconsin

Power on the southern edge of Sheboygan, is occupied, 1,000 acres of state parks left tied the dogs play in the waters of Lake Michigan, briskly along a segment of the beautiful white sand beach that stretches about half a mile from the nature center to the northern boundary of the park. The canines can also meet with their loved humans in several trips through sand dunes and wetland areas rich in birds.

"It's incredible pet owners have to be produced here "Says Mary Kultgen, an associate of visitor services with three Shetland Sheepdogs, ambitious like a dog that enjoys" herding " waves. "We see a lot of labs and [other] retrievers. Note that the lake can get rough on windy days. Tickets: $ 7 for residents, $ 10 for nonresidents. The park camp residents ($ 13/state, $ 15/non-residents) and several Sheboygan hotels offer dog friendly accommodation.

Peninsula Long Beach

Long Beach, Washington

Chasing the seagulls and Frisbees, digging in the sand shiny, smelling crab shells: what else you can ask a dog? For humans, too, windy beach fun abound along this strip of land that juts about 30 miles north from the Ocean Pacific and Willapa Bay, comets and the lighthouse has looked at festivals as SandSations July, with a sand castle contest and pet parade. Dogs can even enjoy supervision, free play, strap on the beaches outside the five state parks and the city of Long Beach – where you can also visit, but must be in a 8-foot leash.

Rip tides, sneaker waves and logs floating hazards posed here: Do not swim or wade deeply – ditto for your dog – and remain alert to the water's edge. Watch out for cars, people are allowed to drive in most of the beaches in this area.

Many hotels on the peninsula pets, my family – including mixtures of cornering Walker Coonhound Pippin – loved our relaxing, spacious. A short dune trail took us to a paradise where dog Pippin sent sand and water flying as he ran through an area of uncrowded beach silver.

What remains to be re-energized after the dog to cool their feet in a river, lake or sea? Well, there's always the most popular and attracts the attention of the canine edge activity: a good, strong roll in a rotting fish. So remember to pack a towel and some perfumed shampoo in your beach bag, just in case!
