fishing when salt water fish fly through the blue, how can I connect the leader of steel? ?

I'm assuming that a leader must steel attached, as in regular fishing (baitcaster, etc.). but I'm not completely Postive. As I'm sure I can say, I am new to fly fishing saltwater.
