A long weekend in the Maine woods is some way to "take a load off," as we say here in Maine. Has the equivalent to free the stress of a full body massage, incorporating all of the senses and leaves you feeling refreshed in body and mind.

Years ago, before the Fibromyalgia called my body, I used to fly fishing in wild rivers and hiking in the mountains, but now I'm off to high adventure my husband and I have learned to slow down and experience of each blessing as it comes. It's hard not detected in the wild forest in Baxter State Park in central Maine.

The water of many streams is crystal clear and very cold. It lacks the smell of nonmetallic minerals that most streams seem to have, perhaps because the water runs so fast by many to reach the river cascades. warning signs to boil water before drinking discourage hikers from drinking water that looks so innocuous in its clarity.

For several years, former Maine Governor Percival Baxter bought and then gave thousands of acres of Maine residents, as a state park. His desire was that the forests remain in a wild and natural state of all persons who visit, and they did. There are very few roads in the park (less than five roads by 200,000 acres), but more than 75 miles of trails leading to remote areas in Maine. The Appalachian Trail, beginning in Georgia, ends at the peak of Mt. Katahdin, Baxter State Parks most famous wild jewel. In just under a mile high, Mt. Katahdin is a feather in the hat of the mountaineers.

A section west branch of the Penobscot River runs south of Baxter State Park, and offers some of the fastest in the country for white water rafters. There are several adventure companies offer water rafting trips on the river, never something I always wanted to do but have had the courage to try. The river is also known for natural salmon hide in the dark pools behind huge granite rocks and tree trunks. This river used to be used to transport logs down the river to Bangor, where reduce or sent to other parts of the country and memories of this presence today with the rise of the chain of evidence here and there in the river. "

While my husband fishing for salmon in the river I nap, read and wrote in the comfort of the truck cab. The next day I did the same as he rose to Turner South Mountain, it took about three hours, including hours spent at the peak to take pictures. Even this late in the season, blueberries were abundant near the tip; in blueberries lower elevations reached a month ago. We spent a night in a car camp on Lake Millinocket, enjoying hand feeding Black Duck, a campfire and roast each other's company, knowing that this was our last long weekend away for the year.

I could not someone feel refreshed and renewed after this?
