One of the best known stories about the health benefits of eating fruit is called French Paradox – the condition of unexpected low incidence of the disease cardiovascular French citizens who regularly eat extraordinary amounts of fatty foods and consume red wine. They technically should have high rates cardiovascular disease, but apparently protected by the chemicals in wine.

Although now recognized that diets high in fat are undesirable, the potential benefits of a whole foods diet rich in phytochemicals are clear when combined with other healthy dietary practices and lifestyle, such as maintenance of a regular exercise program.

Possibly the most publicized phytochemical in red wine is resveratrol found in the skin and seeds of red and purple grapes and dark berries like blueberries. Have the chemical formula C14H12O3, resveratrol is chemically defined as stilbenes viniferin or phytoalexins (a derivative the Greek word meaning "protect" (alexine) or to "avoid").

This description fits the role of resveratrol in the outer skin of plants as a fungicide primary and the antiviral agent with potent antioxidant protection against ultraviolet radiation, pests and injuries. Resveratrol belongs to the general class of plant chemicals called phenols or polyphenols, name of the composition of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen atoms in 6-carbon rings.

Benefits of resveratrol

Through the use of blue, red, purple and black, leather plants rich in resveratrol, humans can get these benefits of protection. Principles of Medical Research shows that this is true, as resveratrol has been shown in preliminary research on experimental animals:

• Increase blood flow and reduce the extent of damage of brain cells after stroke
• Reducing the activity of brain inflammatory mediators in a model of Alzheimer's disease
• Reduce vascular plaque formation in rats that received a high fat diet
• Improve the rate of healing of skin wounds
• Protect against lipid oxidation in a model pancreatitis
• Protect against cellular pathology in a model of diabetic kidney disease
• Protect against liver damage in a model cholestasis or bile duct occlusion
• Protect against cartilage deterioration in osteoarthritis model
• Stimulate the fight against clotting mechanisms in blood
• Lack of appetite and suppress in turn contributes to weight control or loss of
• Increase production sperm
• Inhibition of cataract formation
• Inhibition of proliferation of herpes simplex virus
• To prolong the life of the cells of yeast, worms, fish and fruit flies, possibly through mechanisms that affect aging through the slowdown rate of cell death

Anti-Cancer Effect

Resveratrol most of the health effects of weight shown in laboratory studies is their broad spectrum of activity against cancer. The online database of medical literature from the National Institutes of Health USA, PubMed, CITES nearly 500 publications in the last decade of research on resveratrol as a cancer chemopreventive nutrient.

Experimental models of breast, prostate, lung, blood, skin, brain, kidney, bladder, tongue, esophagus and colon cancer tests to demonstrate the beneficial effects of resveratrol. Apparently, also to sensitize the cells to the agents of cancer therapy, enhancing the benefit of these drugs. Furthermore, when combined with other plants phenol derivatives, the fight against the actions of resveratrol cancer appears to be higher, which shows the potential benefits of antioxidant synergy of a mixed diet of high in fruits and vegetables rich in phytochemicals.

Resveratrol action to inhibit inflammatory mediators and growth of new blood vessels in tumors of (called anti-angiogenesis), and its ability to accelerate the rate of cancer cell death (called apoptosis, "po-eh-toe-sis"), are synergistic effects of anti-cancer activity. In other experiments, resveratrol inhibits the synthesis of enzymes nitro-oxygen radicals such as nitric oxide, which may be involved in cancer development.

In summary, resveratrol acts against the control mechanisms of initiation, promotion and progression tumor cell growth in laboratory models. It is considered one of the most promising natural anti-cancer agents.

Fortunately for us, resveratrol can be easily introduced into the diet and food choices:

OR grapes and dark grape juice
OR wines (and even whites, but with lower levels of resveratrol)
oBlackberries, blackberries, blueberries and cranberries (and their juices)
oPistachios
leather and oPeanuts peanut butter

Take bottom line: eat berries! Drinking red wine! And be happy!
