
For over one hundred years, the House of Hardy has been known as one of the worlds best manufacturers of fishing tackle. His name is synonymous with quality and excellence. They are recognized worldwide as one of the biggest names in fishing.
William Hardy and his brother John James formed the Hardy Bros association in 1873. Initially it was weapons of High quality fire but soon changed direction. Both were avid fishermen and this love became his business. Thus began the famous line from bars Hardy and reels.
The bars were made in early Greenheart, Lancewood and hickory. In 1880 bamboo was added and soon the company invented split bamboo rods. Split-cane rods were made of six segments separated by a bamboo pole. These were glued to form a hexagonal cone. The Palakona Hardy split cane rod won a gold medal at an exhibition in 1881.
Since then many types and models have split cane rod Made by Hardy. They range from the lightest of trout rods, old salmon through large reeds eighteen feet in length. Stud lock joints and split end joints are also Hardy Bros. invention screw fasteners and accessories from W to ring handles and a bridge to allow free movement of line were other events.
The first ball bearing fishing reels were made by Hardy Bros. His invention of a verification mechanism within the Arbor reel was the first time. In 1911 he introduced the first large arbor reel. Hardy Bros were a true innovator in the field of fisheries to meet the highest quality.
The association became Hardy Bros into a limited company in 1911 and in 1928 became a publicly owned company. During World War II fisheries production had to take second place to manufacture bombs. Immediately after the war Hardy Bros continued to expand its production of fine fishing tackle.
Hardy Bros has won more than their share awards for excellence in recent years. A Hardy reel won the first American Kudos Award for Design Excellence. In 1984 the House of Hardy won five awards Japan's industrial design – the first Japanese company to achieve this honor.
The House of Hardy continues today to produce the best possible fishing rods, reels and tackle. His name continues to inspire anglers all over the world to own a Hardy product. Nothing more can be compared.
