Nobody really knows when fly fishing began. It is believed that long existed in antiquity. One of the earliest written references to fly fishing was done by Aelian. In 200 AD, wrote of the people who were fishing in a river with a hand made fly. He described how they attached red wool and feathers to a hook. Bass Fishing in America has a pretty interesting story – instead of being influenced or derived from European sport, U.S. bass fishing has developed on everything yourself. In fact, Europeans – particularly the British fishing under the sea – have been adapted many techniques of U.S. freshwater fish to improve their own performance.

Bass fishing for the sport first became popular in early 1800. While many anglers sought trout and salmon, which was the livelihood of fishermen – those who fish to eat or to sell their catches on the market – which caught bass. He used poles and live bait, and it was these fishermen who "invented" the sport of bass fishing. In fact, most of the terms, concepts, and literature of bass fishermen today are rooted in this historical form of fishing for bass.

Artificial lures available for the first time in the mid 1800s as the sport of bass fishing evolved. While the first developed were used artificial lures for trout and salmon fly patterns specifically developed serious soon.
