Alaska is known as one of the most abundant salmon, and is ideal for fishing trips.
This is due to extreme tides along the west coast and the stream of ocean currents that create an ideal environment for reproduction of thousands of bait.
It is also known as one of the best places to go if want to fish for giant king salmon, the largest species of salmon fish.
The best way to catch these giant salmon (in saltwater) is through trolling or by a fishing line with bait in the water produced.
Fishing for giant King Salmon can be an all year round (especially in Seward).
The most sought-after salmon species are:
1. King Salmon (Chinook) are the largest of these species. Their average weight between 20-40 pounds, the highest on record for which is 112 pounds and can be as long as 3-4 ". It has a blue-green back that is slightly mottled.
The average life of a chinook salmon is about five to seven years.
Its flesh can range in color from ivory white and red.
The Common names for this species of salmon are tyee, springs, mouth / kings Quinnat and tule.
2. Silver Salmon (silver) in the other Sockeye salmon, on the contrary, are the most coveted of its entire species because its flesh is dark red and has a firm rich flavor.
When fishing for salmon in Alaska, one has to be well equipped with proper equipment (and donned with the appropriate clothing).
The following are some of the necessary equipment and materials and advice for hassle-free fishing:
1. You must be coated with layers of warm clothes (not necessarily bulky, as it may hinder the activity of fishing).
2. Over these everyday clothes, a waterproof overall, boots and bibs are likewise necessary to ensure that one would stay dry since after a hook-up, some fish may resist with maximum struggles.
3. Fleet or cruisers that offer services for fishing are usually provided with bait.
4. A guide on board a cruiser ensures that even amateur fishermen will enjoy the business of providing crash-lessons onboard. Usually, the hook bait for the results and inform the party as to where certain species of fish may thrive for selective fishing.
