Think outside the box. How can I do? I suggest you take the time to look up
A personal story to illustrate my point:
The Deerfield River, in western Massachusetts, fly fishing, and so focused on the distribution, drift, the possible assumption that nothing else mattered. Nothing. And going well. No strikes – a head of a fault, caught on a tree. Damn! All fishing equipment and evil spirits seemed to be lined up against me. What was doing? Why was he here?
And then something made me look up. And I looked around. And what I saw was a glorious autumn afternoon – cloudy high in a blue sky, a river lined with mixed wood and pine forests, bright, clean movement of water shimmering with light reflection from the sun. The river part in the shadows.
And then something magical happened. Fly fishermen call "the hatch" – the time when insects have been under water for about few months to a few years to swim to the surface, and become winged insects.
First one by one, and then by the hundreds, then thousands, these flies out the water, shining in the sun, and by helicopter to the trees, where they become the last stage of his life and return to the water, and lay their eggs. Many of them not make the water – the trout began to eat – and location. The fly fisher's dream.
And I took a deep breath, and stood there – Enjoying every minute of being in this special place at this particular time.
I would say that my luck changed fishing – did not. But I fished until was too late to see, and the late drop in temperature had dropped to the point where I could see my breath, and left the water mist. I loved that day – and have had many of them from – and most of them had nothing to do with fly fishing.
That day taught me a valuable lesson. I started to look up – not just when fly fishing, but on other occasions. Things he saw as the tasks that I found was that I had value thought of before. The presentations that had been making to groups within the company where he worked for took a uniqueness that was lost. Routine things that I had to do was think about the opportunities and issues of complex process.
I was learning to look up and see the opportunity, value, usability of the things that seen as objects and obligations. It helped me get through some tough times – still does. It helped me think outside the box – despite having difficulty explaining exactly what that means. But we all know that when it happens.
We can all benefit from taking the time to look up. and see things in a different light. Not have to take a lot of time – some of the best ideas and the changes in values can occur with lightning speed. And they do not have changes to be giants. In fact, very little in our lives creates great changes in values, attitudes, behaviors, abilities. But those changes little – taken by looking up and see what it has always been there, are what can make our lives so much richer – in everything that defines that term.
Try it – look at something that is doing now – that it in different terms. Perhaps its value to others, is the contribution to your company, but of value to your family and yourself. If you're stuck in the thick of the finer things – maybe some of those fine things – things they've seen that have little relevance to you – can be seen as something different – something with impact and value. You'll have more money for the year. Find their own half Deer River – its own special place. Then looking to make a habit of thinking – thinking outside the box.
