fly fishing rod blank

If you're like me, you may be thinking that building built their own fishing rod is a daunting task. When I discovered it was possible to build Rod fishing habit, I put off the decision to do so. I thought I probably did not have enough skill. Probably need special tools. I could be a complicated task that takes up too much space in my house.

When I finally decided to get more information, I was 18 age (30 years!) and was surprised to find it easy to build my own fishing rod can be! Not only that, the work space requirements are not at all. All you need is a space that is slightly wider than the length of the section of the rod blank decides to build his stick on. For example, if you are building a 7-foot rod that comes in two parts, all you need is a space of just over 3 1 / 2 feet wide.

Building custom fishing rods can complicated depending on whether you want to even make your own reel seats and cork handles, but for most of us, buying the components is what we will do. In general, for the fly and spinning rods, you need to buy:

  • The white rod.
  • Cork handle (spinning require a "rear grip" and a "grab as much."
  • Reel Seat.
  • Guides and tip top.
  • Nylon rod of wrap.
  • Epoxy.
  • Epoxy finish Rod wrapping.
  • Liquidation of verification placed on the bar at the end of the tip the front handle.
  • Keeper Hook, if you want in your bar.
  • CAP Butt

The basic steps to build their own spin fishing rod are:

  1. Determine where the backbone of the fishing line is blank, and mark the target. This will be used to determine which white shaft of the guides will be guaranteed.
  2. Enlarge the hole before the cork grip (s) for comply with the butt of the blank, if necessary.
  3. Adjust the rear grip in the blank space after the application of epoxy to the blank where is the rear grip.
  4. Adjust the seat to the blank coil by building up the area between the white and the inside of the reel seat, the use of strips of tape and then apply epoxy to secure the reel seat in place. Properly align the reel seat with the axis of the rod guides are about.
  5. Adjust the grip both white after application of epoxy.
  6. Set the bar aside to allow the resin to cure during 24 hours.
  7. Determine the spacing of the guides – a beginner may want to refer to a general guide, the spacing of success and make minor adjustments according to the white bar that is used.
  8. Using a file, foot wear of the guides so that little cone where the wire is wrapped more.
  9. Connect the guidelines of the white bar with a strip of tape. The use of tape is temporary.
  10. Using the yarn, wrap and secure Guide feet, removing the masking tape as the tape approaches.
  11. Secure top tip with hot melt glue.
  12. Make a decorative wrap over the front handle, if desired, and attach the hook holder in the same way as the guides are attached.
  13. Apply final adjustment bar to the threads.
  14. If you have a slow RPM (7 to 20 rpm) the engine can be attached to the bar that is perfect for ensuring that no sagging of the goal, while the healing process. If not, you can turn the bar handy during the first half hour and then turns 25 degrees every 10 minutes or fifteen for a few hours later.
  15. When the finish has cured wire wrap, place the lid on top for the end of the rod.

Some of the previous steps, such as guides wire adjustment may take a little practice, but it is hard to do. Once you have built your first rod, you'll want to know more about all the different components that are available to you, finishes, and probably increase their skills in the manufacture of decorative thread wraps.

One thing is certain – You'll be very proud when they catch their first fish of the rod that you built yourself!
