If you're like me, simply can not resist the thrill of the catch. When you see the tip of your rod bending toward the water for a split second before the powerful attraction of one of the "big" fight on the other end, that is the beauty of the lake, drawing fishing hole, called the River. To help you enjoy the most this season, I've highlighted five of the best fishing areas around the Pacific Northwest.
1. WASHINGTON – Lewis River
Derived from the western slope of Mt. Adams, north fork of Lewis River is one of the most popular in Washington. The lower river, with a large bank and boat access, offers plenty of Coho and Chinook salmon and steelhead. Because there are a number of protected species, see with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife current and updated information on catch limits.
2. OREGON – Rogue River
Starting near Crater Lake in southern Oregon, the Rogue River is often called "a paradise for anglers. The lower section of Rogue River is heaven for serious fishermen. Exceptionally tasty fish like the king and silver salmon in the Rogue thrive in the fall and spring.
3. Oregon / Idaho – Brownlee Reservoir
Part of Snake River, the 57-mile-long Brownlee Reservoir is on the upper section of the recreation area Hells Canyon. Many have said Brownlee to be the best warm water fishing in the western United States. Wait smallmouth bass, catfish and crappie, and perch, bluegill, largemouth bass and rainbow trout. The reservoir acts as the border between Oregon and Idaho, so that fishermen who are licensed to fish in any states can fish the reservoir, provided that no fish from the shore of the state where you do not have a valid license.
4. Idaho – River of No Return (Salmon River)
The Salmon River is often referred to as the "River of No Return" because years ago a ship could sail by the river, but not a backup in the swift water and rapid land. The salmon is the second largest wilderness preservation area the 48 states. The deep canyon salmon runs through hosting a variety of landscapes, while its course. Rainbow, the murderers, graylings, and brook trout are common catches.
5. Idaho – Kelly Creek
Located in the northern part of Clearwater National Forest, Kelly Creek is world known as the Premier of water fly fishing in Idaho. In addition to its beautiful landscapes, Kelly Creek is an excellent fishing river slope west-murderer, or "slices" as locals say. You will also see the mountain whitefish, rainbow trout and the occasional bull. Seasoned in Kelly Creek Fishermen will tell you the fish are abundant and not too demanding with flies.
In their haste to find great fishing, do not forget to pack essential. Of course, you will have the obvious – a rod, gear, and a steak knife. Pack a light fishing, too. Although many fishing boats are equipped with lights, with a hand-held fishing light added security to their trips. I recommend you get a quality of light bending in the optimal beam direction and hands-free use.
