A fly is a lure made to look like a food fish or other insects. The idea behind the design is simple and true: make a lure that resembles the natural prey of some fish and come racing onto the hook. At least since the mid 17th century and probably for hundreds of years ago, that idea has been proven over and over time.

It works pretty well.

The creativity of fishermen and their friends who make flies for fun and profit is surprising, especially for the fishermen themselves. Flies are often works of art as much as practical devices. But the practice they are. Whether you make them look like a fly May, a small shrimp or a small rodent, a large fly is a marvel.

N fisherman long can resist the urge to make your own fly. Sooner or later, that explodes the creativity latent in the desire of the probability that the lake trout perfect landing. Let your inner artist out and enjoy the fishing that much more. Even if you do not capture everything you have at least one thing to brag about.
