What kind of fishing I do with my Fenwick Rod?
I recently received a Fenwick Spinning and Fly Combo as a gift. Specifications-7'0 "1/8-5/8 lure, 6-12 pounds, and is the veil of carbon (graphite guess that would mean). The spinning reel is an Abu Garcia Cardinal–8lbs/80yds. I do not know how to fly fish so the fly reel is not of much importance to me. Anyway, my question is what kind of fish this rod and reel combo be able to drive? I can also do some saltwater fishing with a striper or will fail? Finally, I should get 8 lbs mono or braid 8 pounds? Thanks
This particular combo would be better used in a river, pond or small lake low, small to medium trout, BlueGill / crappie, small-medium Eldorado, pike small, small carp and raw fish, etc., is not designed for saltwater fishing. You can use in salt water, but eventually the spool (if not washed and greased regularly) corrode. This right spinning reel in particular is extremely "light" for most saltwater fish, (period). Unless your a fan of the "light off fishing" in salt water, do not use it for Striper. Striper tend to be "Feisty" big fish and more than likely "tail" if that equipment is used to fish for them. (Cola you? – Take all your line.) This equipment is designed to deal with light freshwater fishing only. Most combo spinning / fly are designed for trout and other freshwater fish rather small. If I were you, I buy Berkley Fireline 4 / 10 of braided line this team. Hope this helps ya? Good fishing!
