While other remia fisheries under threat from commercial exploitation, fishing for sailfish Guatemala has been protected for many years and still growing.
The coastline and ecosystem support vast amounts of bait warm eddies round years and have large pods of sailfish between 2 and 50 miles from port. Guatemala has many official (and unofficial!) Records of Pacific sailfish including most in one day progress (57), in most conventional in a day and more in a season ………….. so is not to stop trapping, and fishing! The blue water containing the bait and, in turn attracts and retains many sailfish can be a distance of 2 kilometers from the dam during the dry season (October to May), but could be more than 40 miles or two hours from the pier at other times – in terms of deep ocean currents and weather patterns.
When the blue water has pushed further out, is important when considering a fishing trip to Guatemala to pay attention to the type, size and comfort of the sport fishing boat who are planning to use. If fishing is like 45 miles away before "lines" – to a reasonable cruising speed 20knts., This is more than two hour trip to the grounds (in each direction!) – so it can be a wise decision to pay a little more for a larger boat with a comfortable, quiet room – For you to relax and travel in some comfort – in the salons usually have ability to "rest" four fishermen comfortably.
There is action is also good for dorado and tuna if you want to take home something to the table at night. You may also have the opportunity to connect to blue marlin in number considerably during the season. Nearer the coast Theera still a lot of action available, with species such as cock Amberjacks challenge and provide a fisherman!
Prime season runs from October through June – but fish are resident throughout the year, and the release of 40 or more fish have been recorded in every month – But this is the first fishing season, when the weather is stable and calm provides an ideal for fishing sailing conditions.
The Bluewater is tunosabesque a rnage of two or more miles from the Navy, although more often in the first season always starts about 20 miles – a deep ravine that is 25 miles wide and dropoffs of 1000 feet to 5000 feet is where the strong currents from east to west in turn from the coast of El Salvador, and the shape of a giant natural eddy system that happen to have large amounts of bait, attracting pelagic fish in large numbers.
All billfishing is catch and release using only the hooks pie – yet another reason why the fishing remains so consistent and so prolific fish. The only real challenge or threat to these magnificent fish and fisheries remarkable Below is the presence of longline fishing outside the territorial limits of Guatemala. The coalition of sport fishing and fishing organisions Guatemalans are activly and continuous pressure from the authorities – both in Guatemala and Costa Rica (target billfish meat remains legal). We are grateful to the foresight of the authorities Gutamelan to ban the slaughter of all billfish, many years ago.
