The Allan Water is controlled by Allan Fisheries Water Improvement Association, you can buy permits by the day of the Dunblane post office or join the list Waiting for the association. The waiting list to join a one year, but this place is only for members of Saturday.
We fished the upper pools beat 1. The pools are near Braco until just before the hotel. I only used Fly Fishing as our method, although you can turn to salmon and trout
Salmon Fishing
Equipment – Single Handed airflow, SLS Fly Rod.
Location
No need to wade into this place the river not a big river. You can fish from shore with ease. However, this water really need to have a lot of rain before the fish too. Banks are very well maintained and water quality is excellent
Flies – Ermine tail and Pot Belly Pig.
We caught a number of hours without much luck and decided switch to a pork belly fly in half an hour I had landed a grilse £ 6. It took me over half an hour to land the fish. (We returned the fish to form safely to the river) I can see now why the pork belly is a popular place.
Trout Fishing
Team – 6 / 7 9 feet 6 Trout Fly Rod with floating Line
Flies – Dry Fly and wet flies (the day we fish catch almost everything)
Fishing
We found this river to work team with a lot of small brown trout on 6inch long to be seen as a building site, actually managed to capture about 20 (all of which were returned water safety)
We found we had great success with small wet flies and dry flies size 16. In general, the fly had dry on the top dropper and moisture at the tip.
Overall
A nice, clean, ideal for in-Flyfishing experience, easy access and by the time a good chance of a salmon. This is a great place to learn to fish in a river.
Turning things to note about this place is the fact that indeed the actions of the river with brown trout to supplement natural fish populations. I noticed large quantities of small brown trout about 1 to 2 inches in size, which is a real positive, it means that the natural fish spawning and this can only lead to the place and the best brand of fishing trout.
