black hills fly fishing

Leaving Cape Town at approximately 10h00 one morning, I headed north up the N7, the main route from the coast westward to the mountain area Cederberg. Disabling Clanwilliam and taking advantage of the last area of cell phone reception, I made a phone call to inform the lodge about my arrival time. Then I headed east on some rough gravel roads in the Cederberg wilderness.

The Cederberg is renowned for its incredible sandstone rock formations, bushman paintings and many increasingly rare Clanwilliam cedar, which takes its name. That covers about 71 000 hectares of rugged terrain and mountains, the Cederberg was proclaimed a wilderness area in 1973, and as such enjoys the highest possible condition. Check out this link to read more on this beautiful area.

Bushmanskloof desert reserve covers an area of 7500 hectares and has been hailed as South Africa's Natural Heritage of Humanity. Also part of the Cape Floral Region, a designated World Heritage Site.

After a beautiful drive 4 km from the main gate through the book I got to present 3 hours after leaving Cape Town and was joyfully received by staff. They handed me a bouquet warm hand towel to wipe my hands and a cool, refreshing iced tea, the main ingredient is the local production of Rooibos (red bush) tea. Rooibos is a indigenous bush that caffeine and tannin free tea is made. It is very rich in antioxidants and is grown and produced in Clanwilliam. A quick tour orientation Lodge helped me find my bearings, while the luggage was taken to my room and my little luxury car of confidence taken at the covered parking.

Well, he wasted no time and after a quick bite to eat in the room service menu served to me in my small private terrace, which disappeared in a of circular walking routes in the rocky hills surrounding the silence and peace that calms my soul. I returned just in time to delve into the delicious snack treats.
